At Synde, we don’t apply a collection of isolated techniques. Our work is structured around an integrated and transdiagnostic therapeutic model: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). “Transdiagnostic” means that we don’t focus on diagnostic labels (anxiety, depression, OCD) but rather on the underlying psychological processes that, according to scientific evidence, are the common roots of most human suffering.
To achieve this, the therapeutic process focuses on training, in a practical and experiential way, six fundamental skills:
Acceptance
The process of actively opening up to emotions, thoughts, and sensations—even the most uncomfortable ones—without trying to suppress or control them. It is not resignation; it is a radical “yes” to experience, to stop wasting energy on futile battles.
Cognitive defusion
Learning to observe your thoughts from a distance, recognizing them as passing mental events (words, images), not literal truths or commands you must obey. This reduces their power and impact on your behavior.
Contact with the present moment
The ability to intentionally and flexibly anchor your attention in the here and now. Cultivated through mindfulness exercises, it is the antidote to ruminating about the past and worrying about the future.
Self-as-context
Connecting with a stable, observing sense of self—an inner “space” from which you can watch thoughts and emotions pass by without fusing with them. It is the “chessboard” that contains the game without being affected by it.
Values
A process of exploration to clarify what truly matters to you in life (e.g., being a caring partner, a creative professional, taking care of your health). Values are not goals, but directions that guide your actions moment to moment.
Committed action
Setting concrete goals based on your values and carrying out flexible patterns of behavior to reach them, even when psychological barriers such as fear or doubt arise.
